Suppression reasons

When an address is suppressed, it is skipped for future Broadcasts to protect your sender reputation and honor subscriber choices. Each suppressed address carries a reason that explains why it was added and, in most cases, whether it can be removed. Use this reference to interpret the reason shown against any subscriber and to decide what action (if any) is appropriate.

Reason labels and availability can vary by account configuration — (confirm the exact labels in your account).

Reference

ReasonWhat it meansTypically removable?
Hard bounceThe address was rejected as invalid or non-existent (permanent failure). No — verify a corrected address before re-adding
Repeated soft bounceThe address soft-bounced (mailbox full, temporary error) enough times to cross the threshold.Yes — after you confirm the address is valid again
Spam complaintThe subscriber marked a Broadcast as spam (feedback-loop report).Rarely — only with explicit re-consent
UnsubscribeThe subscriber opted out via an unsubscribe link or List-Unsubscribe.Only if the subscriber re-subscribes
Manual / admin suppressionAn admin added the address directly to the suppression list.Yes — by an admin
Global / account-wide suppressionThe address is suppressed across the whole account, not just one Folder or list.Yes — by an admin
Blocked by receiving serverThe recipient mail server refused delivery (policy or reputation block).Sometimes — after the block clears
Invalid / malformed addressThe address failed format validation and was never deliverable. No — correct and re-add the address

Notes

  • Suppression is applied at the address level, so the same person on multiple lists is suppressed everywhere the reason applies (especially for account-wide reasons).
  • Complaint and unsubscribe reasons should generally be treated as permanent; re-adding those addresses without fresh consent risks deliverability and compliance issues.
  • The example rows above are representative. Your account may show additional or renamed reasons depending on configuration.
  • To review, add, or remove entries, see the suppression list management steps.
