Fix Common Content and Formatting Issues
Resolve problems like images not showing, broken layouts, or styling that looks off in an Edition.
Symptom
While building or previewing an Edition, you notice one or more of the following:
- Images appear as broken icons, empty boxes, or alt text instead of the picture.
- The layout collapses, columns stack incorrectly, or spacing looks wrong.
- Fonts, colors, or button styling render differently than they did in the editor.
- The problem shows up only in certain email clients (for example, Outlook) or only on mobile.
Likely causes
Ranked from most to least common:
- Images not hosted or not public — an image was pasted or linked from a private location the subscriber's mail client cannot reach.
- Images blocked by default — many clients hide images until the subscriber clicks "show images," so a working Edition can still look empty on first open.
- Unsupported or over-complex styling — pasted content from Word, Google Docs, or a web page can carry hidden markup and CSS that email clients strip or misrender.
- Client-specific rendering — Outlook, Gmail, and dark mode each interpret layout and color differently.
- Missing alt text or fixed widths — no fallback text and rigid pixel widths break gracefully-degrading layouts.
Fixes
- Re-upload images through the Edition's image tool so they are hosted and publicly reachable, rather than pasted or hot-linked from another site. (Confirm the exact upload steps in your account.)
- Add alt text to every image so something meaningful shows when images are blocked or slow to load.
- Clear pasted formatting. Re-paste as plain text, or use the editor's "remove formatting" option, then re-apply styling with the built-in tools instead of inherited markup.
- Rebuild broken sections with content blocks rather than hand-tuned layouts, and avoid fixed pixel widths so the Edition adapts on mobile.
- Send a test Broadcast to yourself and check it in the clients your subscribers actually use, including dark mode, before sending the real Broadcast.
Still stuck?
If the issue persists after a test send, note which client and device reproduce it, capture a screenshot, and contact your account administrator or support team with the Edition name and Folder so they can review it.
