Build Your First Edition End to End
Follow a complete walkthrough from a blank Edition to a preview-ready draft.
What you'll build
By the end of this tutorial you'll have a complete Edition — an email you build as an Author — with a subject line, header, body content, and at least one personalization token, saved in a Project Folder and ready to preview. You won't send a Broadcast here; the goal is a clean, preview-ready draft you can hand off for review.
Before you begin
- Access to an account where you can create and edit Editions.
- A Project Folder to keep your work organized (create one if you don't have it yet).
- Some content to work with: a subject line, a short intro, and a call to action.
- Optional: a small test list or your own address so you can preview to a real inbox.
Steps
- Create the Edition. Open your Project Folder and start a new Edition from a blank layout or a starter template. Give it a clear internal name so you can find it later. (confirm the exact steps in your account)
- Set the subject line. Enter a concise, descriptive subject. Keep the most important words near the front so they survive truncation on mobile.
- Add your content. Build out the header, body, and a call-to-action button or link. Work section by section and save as you go.
- Personalize it. Insert a personalization token (for example, the subscriber's first name) so each subscriber sees their own value. See Personalization tags for the full list.
- Check the details. Confirm your sender name, reply-to, and any links are correct. Add alt text to images so the Edition reads well when images are blocked.
- Preview. Use the preview to see how the Edition renders, then send a test to yourself. Review both desktop and mobile, and check that tokens resolve to real values.
Next steps
- Send it as a Broadcast once the draft is approved.
- Explore interactive content and surveys to make the Edition engaging.
- Learn which numbers to watch after sending in the Metrics dictionary.
