Send Your First Broadcast
Build a simple Edition and send it to a small test audience from start to finish.
What you'll build
By the end of this tutorial you will have created a simple Edition, added a subject line and a short piece of content, previewed it, and sent it as a Broadcast to a small test audience of a few subscribers. This is the fastest way to learn the full path from a blank Edition to a delivered message before you send anything to a real audience.
Before you begin
- An account with permission to create Editions and send Broadcasts.
- A small test audience — ideally a handful of subscribers you control (for example, your own inboxes and a colleague's). (Confirm how audiences and test lists are set up in your account.)
- A verified sending identity so your test message can be delivered. (Confirm the exact steps in your account.)
Steps
- Create a Folder (or open one). Editions live in a Project Folder, so pick or create a Folder to keep this first message organized.
- Create a new Edition. Start from a blank Edition or a starter layout, and give it a clear internal name so you can find it later.
- Add a subject line. This is what subscribers see in their inbox — keep it short and specific.
- Add some content. Drop in a headline and a paragraph or two. You don't need a polished design yet; the goal is to send successfully.
- Preview the Edition. Check how it renders and read it as a subscriber would. Fix any obvious layout or wording issues.
- Choose your test audience. Select the small group of test subscribers you prepared above rather than a full production audience.
- Send a seed or test to yourself first. Confirm it arrives, the subject looks right, and links work. (Confirm the exact preview/test-send steps in your account.)
- Send the Broadcast. With the test audience selected, send the Edition. Watch for the confirmation that it has been queued or delivered.
Next steps
- Add personalization tags so each subscriber sees their own name or details.
- Learn what the delivery numbers mean in the metrics dictionary.
- Grow beyond a test list by building an audience in Audiences.
- Explore interactive content and surveys to make your next Edition engaging.
