Send an Edition when a subscriber takes an action

Action-triggered automation lets you respond to a subscriber the moment they do something — click a link, open a Broadcast, join a list, or submit a form — instead of sending on a fixed schedule. This how-to walks through wiring a subscriber event to a follow-up Edition so the right message goes out automatically.

Before you begin​

  • The follow-up Edition is built and ready to send in its Folder (Project Folder).
  • You know which event should start the automation (for example, a click on a specific link, a Broadcast open, or a new list join).
  • You have permission to create automations or triggered sends in your account.
  • If you plan to trigger on a click, confirm the source Broadcast tracks that link.

Steps​

  1. Open the automation area of your account and create a new trigger (sometimes called a triggered send, journey, or workflow). (confirm the exact steps in your account)
  2. Choose the subscriber event that starts it — such as link clicked, Broadcast opened, or added to list — and narrow it to the specific link, Broadcast, or list if prompted.
  3. Set who qualifies: the audience or list the trigger listens to. Only subscribers in that audience will enter the automation.
  4. Add the action to take — select Send an Edition and pick your prepared follow-up Edition. You can add a delay (for example, wait one hour) before it goes out.
  5. Optionally add conditions (send only once per subscriber, or exclude those who already converted) to avoid over-mailing.
  6. Save and activate the trigger. Send a test event to yourself first if the option is available.

Result​

When a qualifying subscriber performs the event, the automation sends the follow-up Edition (after any delay you set). Confirm it is working by checking the automation's activity or the follow-up Edition's report for triggered Broadcasts to real subscribers.
