Add Video and GIFs

Bring animated GIFs and video into the media library so you can reuse them across your Editions. Because most email clients do not play embedded video, the platform helps you use an animated GIF or a clickable "play" thumbnail that links out to your hosted video — the reliable way to show motion in an email.

Before you begin

  • Have your media file ready. Keep GIFs small (aim for a few hundred KB) so they load quickly; large animations can be slow or blocked.
  • For real video, host it first (your video platform or landing page) and copy the destination URL. You will link to it rather than embed it.
  • Confirm you have permission to upload assets to the media library in your account. (confirm the exact steps in your account)

Steps

  1. Open the media library from the content authoring area of your account.
  2. Upload your GIF using the add or upload option, then wait for it to finish processing. (confirm the exact steps in your account)
  3. In your Edition, place an image where you want the motion, and select the GIF from the library to insert it.
  4. For video, insert a still thumbnail image (ideally with a play icon), then add a link on that image pointing to your hosted video URL.
  5. Add descriptive alt text so subscribers on clients that block images still understand the content.
  6. Send yourself a test Broadcast and preview it across a few email clients before sending broadly.

Result

Your GIF animates in supporting clients, and your video thumbnail opens the hosted video when a subscriber taps it. A static first frame or alt text appears wherever animation or images are blocked.
