Import subscribers from a CSV file

Upload a spreadsheet of contacts to add many subscribers to a list at once. A CSV import is the fastest way to seed a new list or bulk-update details for subscribers you already have.

Before you begin

  • A CSV file saved with UTF-8 encoding, one subscriber per row, and a header row naming each column (for example Email, First name, Last name).
  • An Email column — this is the required unique key that identifies each subscriber. Rows with a missing or malformed email are skipped.
  • The destination list ready to receive the contacts (create it first if it does not exist).
  • Confirmed consent to email everyone in the file. Importing does not by itself establish permission to send.
  • Any custom fields you plan to map already exist on the list (confirm the exact steps in your account).

Steps

  1. Open the Audiences area and select the list you want to import into.
  2. Choose the import option and upload your CSV file.
  3. Map each spreadsheet column to a subscriber field. Match your Email column to the email field, and map name and any custom columns to their matching fields.
  4. Pick how to handle contacts that already exist — update their details, or skip them to leave existing values untouched.
  5. Review the preview and the detected row count, then start the import.
  6. Wait for the import to finish. Larger files are processed in the background; you will be notified when it completes (confirm the exact steps in your account).

Result

The subscribers are added to the list and are immediately available for a Broadcast. Check the import summary for the counts of records added, updated, and skipped, and review any rejected rows (usually caused by a blank or invalid email) so you can correct and re-import them.
